Year 9 Geography trips to Canterbury
Throughout September, the Geography department took Year 9 students on a number of Canterbury field trips. The objective was to enable students to collect a wide range of information using different field techniques, to assess the extent of tourism in Canterbury. All five trips were a success, with CCGS students conducing themselves in polite and respectful manners and proudly representing our school. It was very pleasing to see students actively engaging with the public and making the most of their independent learning. The students will use the data collected back in the classroom to produce a project on their findings from Canterbury. The production of the project, along with the experience gained from their data collection will set the students in good stead for when they begin GCSE Geography (for those choosing the subject), as the skills form a fundamental part of Paper 3 – Geographical skills and applications. Additionally, if students go on to choose A Level Geography they will need to put their fieldwork skills back into practice for their Non-Exam Assessment, which makes up 20% of their final grade.
