World Languages Day
On Thursday 27th June, a group of fourteen Y8 linguists were invited to attend the "World Languages Day" at the University of Kent, Canterbury.
The aim of the day, according to the University was "to offer a range of interactive workshops which encourage students to use the languages they are already learning and to try something new in a creative and engaging way."
Our pupils got to try African drumming and Japanese language workshops as well as practise their French and Spanish. Some also got an introduction to Italian and a go at Bollywood dancing! Finally, they got involved in a latin workshop: "Meet a Roman Celebrity" where they had to design banners in latin welcoming an exiled roman to their shores. As well as learning some latin, this made the pupils reflect on how languages open doors and make people feel welcome.
I think it is safe to say that the day was very enjoyable. Our Y8 pupils were great ambassadors of CCGS and made sure that their peers will get an invitation again next year! Thanks to Señora Griffiths & Mme Sotiri for accompanying the group.
