Yesterday saw the Interhouse Spelling Bee taking place in the Chatham Assembly Hall. Once again the students did a great job of participating and the event itself was exciting to behold.

Round 1 saw students from all four Houses, Years 7-11, taking turns spelling words of increasing difficulty. There were superb turns from all involved, but every student except one was confounded by the final word in their list. That student was Finley Munsen, 10RP, who successfully spelled 'demagogue'. Finlay, along with Savannah Ellerington (8KH) and Filip Gregoras (11TS), also scored 5/6 for this round. A very well done to those students, whose words including such humdingers as 'narcissist' and 'Worcester'. This round was ultimately won by Thomas-Sharman, scoring 20 points out of a possible 30.

Round 2 was the quickfire challenge. Houses worked as a team to spell as many words as possible in 1 minute. This time around, Rothschild-Pearce stormed ahead thanks to an impressive score of 26 out of 30.

The final round was the Head to Head. Grace Manville (11 KH) was 'volunteered' on behalf of her house to go up against Finlay Munsen (10RP). It was a tense round, with Finlay prevailing by scoring 5 out of 5. Then Kinus 'rapid fire' Krishnamoorthy (11MS) went toe-to-toe with Filip G, beating his opponent with a score of 4 out of 5. Kinus impressively spelled 'kaleidoscope' under pressure—no mean feat!

The final scores were:

1st - RP
2nd - MS
3rd - KH
4th - TS

Thanks to all those who were involved, and to Mrs Clements and Mrs Harris for doing their usual amazing job of scoring!
