Welcome
❝One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.❞
(Frank Smith)
The CCGS MFL curriculum builds on language learning skills, rather than content, learnt in KS2. We recognise that students have learnt a variety of languages in their primary school and therefore do not assume any knowledge of French or Spanish. However, those students who have learnt French or Spanish at primary school will be able to use their prior knowledge of vocabulary to add variety to their speaking and writing.
While at CCGS, all students in KS3 and KS4 will have weekly vocabulary tests in French and Spanish as knowing a range of vocabulary is key to success in language learning. The vocabulary that should be learnt is provided to students on termly vocabulary sheets with QR codes that link to Quizlet sets to facilitate revision.
In all topics at KS3 and KS4 students will learn about Francophone and Hispanic culture as well as learning the language. Students will be also offered enrichment activities during their time at CCGS so that they can learn more about the cultures of the languages that they are learning.
