Clubs and Societies
Book Club (KS3)
Following the successes of the Carnegie Shadowing Group and the KS5 Book Club, the English department has introduced a book club for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The club will provide students with an opportunity to discuss literature in a less formal environment, promoting the importance of reading for pleasure across the key stage.
Book Club (KS4 & 5)
This is open to students in Year 10 and above, who have an interest in reading and follows the format of an informal ‘reading group’. We meet Friday lunchtimes over coffee to discuss a text the group has chosen which reflects their personal interests. The society is useful if you want to broaden your reading or are applying to read English at university.
Chess Club (KS3)
We meet each week on a Tuesday lunchtime in GF3. This club is open to all levels of chess players. Students can bring their lunch along and play chess with friends and other players. This club focuses on not being overly competitive and encourages a calm, relaxed playing environment.
Combined Cadet Force (CCF)
Parading every Tuesday after school. RAF section CCF is the Royal Air Force branch of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), sponsored and commanded by the Ministry of Defence. Our aim is to help all young people develop leadership, discipline, and teamwork, regardless of their future careers goal. Training centres heavily on aviation, aerospace, and general military skills, matching the values and traditions of the Royal Air Force. Cadets get opportunities for flying and gliding experiences alongside virtual reality flight simulators. The training programme covers air power, aerospace management, principles of flight, cyber skills, navigation, and first aid. Adventure & Fieldcraft: Participants take part in camps, field exercises, leadership courses, drill, and outdoor adventurous training
Chaplaincy Room (next to SF7)
This is a quiet retreat room accessible by all students (and staff) for quiet prayer, meditation or contemplation during morning break and lunchtimes. Chess Club
Students are invited to come along and develop their chess skills.
Computer Club
Come in and spend time accessing the technology to complete work using our computers. Managed by sixth formers, you will need to ensure that this room is only used for the purposes intended. No food or drink allowed. Monday – Thursday in FF5 and L3

DND Club
Dungeons and Dragons is a roleplaying adventure game for small groups of players. The clubs are both student led and all are welcome to attend. You do not need to have a group already in order to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Wilks who supervises both clubs. Tuesday lunchtimes in FF3 and Friday lunchtimes in L4
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Bronze Award:
Sessions are for Year 9 students only and are on a Wednesday afterschool, typically from 3:30-4:30pm (with some sessions running to 5:00pm), in the Dining Hall at Chatham. The sessions focus on supporting the Expedition section of the award such as Tent Pitching, Trangia Use, 1st Aid, Map Skills and Expedition Aim. Students are expected to complete the other 3 sections, Volunteering, Physical and Skill in their own time, outside of school. Staff are also on hand to help with eDofE and the logging of evidence and assessor reports.
Silver Award:
Sessions are for Year 10-13 students and are on a Tuesday Lunchtime in LG2. The sessions build upon Bronze experiences and again focus on the Expedition Section, primarily focusing on Map Skills and Expedition Aim. Students are expected to complete the other 3 sessions, Volunteering, Physical and Skill in their own time, outside of school, for longer periods of time. Staff are also on hand to help with eDofE and the logging of evidence and assessor reports.
Economics Unplugged
Thursday lunchtime Economics club that is ran by Year 13 students. Students have the opportunity to take part in debates and revision activities.

Tuesday after school club for Year 13 and Year 12 students to drop in for extra support on developing understanding on topics and exam technique.
Electronics Club
Discover the exciting world of coding, creativity, and technology in our micro:bit Electronics Club. Designed for Key Stage 3 students, this hands-on club allows members to code and program a micro:bit devices to create games, animations, robots, and innovative digital projects using a range of components, sensors and expansion boards. Students will develop valuable skills in coding, problem-solving, logical thinking, and teamwork while bringing their ideas to life through fun challenges and real-world applications. Whether you are completely new to programming or already enjoy technology, Electronics Club provides a friendly and engaging environment to explore computing, build confidence, and develop skills that are essential for becoming innovators in the digital world of the future.
English Breakfast Club
Running during form time English breakfast club is run by sixth formers to help GCSE students with parts of the course they want extra support with. It also comes with the promise of free breakfast bars!
Gardening Club (Feb - July)
Get your hands dirty and discover the journey from seed to plate with our Food Tech Gardening Club. Based in our school food technology garden, students will learn how to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs while developing practical gardening skills and an understanding of sustainable food production. Members will plant, nurture, and harvest seasonal crops, helping to supply fresh ingredients for food technology lessons. The club promotes teamwork, responsibility, wellbeing, and environmental awareness, offering students the chance to enjoy the outdoors, learn new skills, and gain a greater appreciation of where their food comes from. Whether you're an experienced gardener or a complete beginner, everyone is welcome to help our garden grow and flourish.
Geography KS3 Working Lunch
This provides support to catch up with class work and homework, alongside the opportunity to explore areas of interest in greater depth, and extend Geographical understanding by working on the departments 'Termly Challenge'. The club is led by a member of the Geography department. Laptops are available to support the work. Look out for further details on posters or ask your geography teacher.

This provides support to catch up with class work, complete homework, solve any course related problems and a space to get some work done! Computers are usually available to support students and the session is led by a geography teacher.

A chance for students to catch up on homework and to study in a quiet environment. Daily after school in FF5
Industrial Cadets
Take on real-world engineering challenges, work with industry and university professionals, and develop the skills that employers and universities value through the Industrial Cadets Gold Award. This exciting programme gives students the opportunity to collaborate on a substantial STEM-based project, building skills in teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, research, project management, and communication. Working alongside industry mentors and university technicians, students will gain valuable experience, enhancing their CVs and personal statements, and achieve the prestigious Industrial Cadets Gold Award. The club is ideal for ambitious students who want to make a positive impact, strengthen their employability skills, and explore future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Investors Club (KS4)
Learn to invest in stocks and shares and understand the cause and effects of stock market fluctuations. Learn how to understand Crypto and the risks and regards of investing in it. on Thursday lunchtimes, in BB.

Maths in Motion
Maths In Motion Club is open to all year groups in the school and we have a good mixture of girls and boys who regularly enjoy attending this weekly Wednesday lunchtime club.
The Club is an eye opener into the applications of Mathematics outside of the classroom. Pupils can work together or independently setting up a virtual car solving an optimization problem. They then use a range of mathematics to do their pit team briefing measuring the track, working with scales and calculating the correct lap to do a stop depending on the weather.
CCGS have won various Racing Series Season National Races gaining a good reputation over the years including holding the status of being a Centre Of Excellence. The Club inspires pupils to enter the engineering field and is an impressive asset to include on a personal statement when applying to top Universities.
Music
There are over 20 musical ensembles rehearsing weekly at the school ranging from choirs (junior boys, junior girls and flute), junior ukulele, steel pans, rock bands, junior band, advanced vocals, karaoke club, barbershop, guitars, jazz and more! These are held at Break, lunchtime as well as after school. Further details available from the Music Department section on the school website and from the following Ensembles’ timetable below. Sport/Physical Activity
Sport is an integral part of school life. Throughout the year, we offer numerous opportunities for students to become engaged in sport. Our competitive sporting calendar is enviable, including Saturday fixtures and mid-week inter-school matches. We compete in all major school sports as well as providing other opportunities in activities such as fitness where students can gain a positive practical experience in a non-competitive environment.
STEM Racing UK Club (KS3 & KS4)
Students get the exciting opportunity to combine science, technology, engineering and mathematics through the challenge of designing, building and racing a miniature Formula 1-style car. Working as part of a team, students will develop valuable skills in engineering, design, project management, problem-solving, marketing and teamwork, while using industry-standard software and equipment. The club encourages creativity, innovation and communication as students work towards competing against other schools. Whether you are interested in engineering, business, graphics or technology, STEM Racing UK provides a fun and engaging way to gain real-world experience and prepare for future careers in STEM industries.
Trading card game club
In this club we play Magic the Gathering / Pokémon in R03 on a Wednesday lunchtime. We get together to play against each other, and this is available to both beginners and more experienced players. Some cards are provided for you to try it out and then if you want to invest in your own, you can! Magic the Gathering has cards from their own universe as well as popular universes such as Marvel, The Hobbit and many more!'
