Reporting and Assessment

At CCGS, we are committed to providing students and parents/carers with clear, timely and meaningful information regarding academic progress and student engagement. Details about the release of reports and the schedule of consultation evenings are communicated regularly to ensure transparency and engagement in each student’s learning journey.

Reporting Data

Across all year groups, students receive reports that include the following:

Effort – Effort grades indicate how proactive and dedicated students are in their learning, reflecting their ability to manage the demands and challenges of the school curriculum. Further details can be found in the Effort Descriptor document that can be found on the school website under “Behaviour”.

Attendance Figures – Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for academic success. CCGS maintains rigorous standards to ensure excellent attendance across the school and students are encouraged to aim for 100% attendance and punctuality.

In addition, reports for each Key Stage include the following:

Years 7–9

Assessment % – The percentage achieved on the cumulative assessments that are completed twice per year. These assessments cover knowledge, skills and content that have been covered throughout the year and test retention, recall and application.

Average Assessment % – The mean result for the subject cohort, providing useful context for individual performance. From this data we can see whether or not students are broadly in line with their peers.

Years 10–11

Students also receive:

Working At Grades – Reflecting current levels of attainment.

Projected Grades – Indicating the grade a student is expected to achieve at the end of the course, assuming current effort and progress are maintained.

Years 12–13

Students continue to receive Working At Grades. In Year 13, a UCAS Predicted Grade is also provided. This grade is aspirational, representing both current performance and the student’s academic potential.

We know progress is rarely linear and we appreciate that every child is different. This system allows teachers, pastoral staff and parents/carers to respond to any development needs and generate discussions at home and school. It is, however, expected that throughout their school journey students will strive to be resilient and independent learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve.

Written Reports

Parents/carers receive a mentor report during each key stage highlighting each student’s personal qualities and contributions to the wider school community. These reports celebrate growth, character, and alignment with the school’s values and ethos.

Academic Consultations

Consultation evenings offer valuable opportunities for parents/carers to discuss progress directly with subject teachers and tutors.

Years 7, 11 and 13: Two consultation evenings per year

Years 8, 9, 10 and 12: One consultation evening per year

Communication and Recognition

If concerns arise regarding a student’s progress, the school will proactively contact parents/carers. However, we also encourage open communication. Students and parents/carers are welcome to reach out at any time, with the Head of Year serving as the first point of contact for academic or wellbeing discussions.

Students who demonstrate consistent effort, resilience and self-motivation - qualities embodied in our Learning Ethos Framework - are recognised through achievement points and certificates. The stronger a student’s commitment to learning, the greater their opportunity to reach and exceed their potential.
