Summer School 2021 - Information for Parents

Dear Parent or Carer,

We are pleased to be able to provide a week for your son or daughter to attend our school during a quiet time. It has been a very strange year and a lot of our students have missed out on the ‘normality’ of school. We hope they have fun with us and enjoy the opportunities that we can provide.

Main Aims:

  • Provide a blend of enrichment and academic activities to support the transition of students from Year 6 to Year 7
  • Develop core school values
  • Establish positive school culture and ethos
  • Promote cultural capital, wellbeing, emotional, academic and social development
  • Support transition process and communication skills
  • To have fun and meet new friends

Daily Themes:

Monday: Our school (involving Art and Geography)

Tuesday: Olympics (involving History, Music, English, Science and PE)

Wednesday: STEAM (involving Science, Maths and Technology)

Thursday: Holidays (involving Geography, Languages and PE)

Friday: HUB Challenge (involving the whole curriculum)

Other important Information:

  1. Catering – we will provide bottled drinks and water for all breaks as well as a biscuit at break time and a lunch at lunch time
  2. Lunch will consist of a filled baguette (Tuna or Ham&Cheese or Cheese Salad or Chicken mayo or Cheese & Onion), a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit (apple or banana) and a cereal or cake bar.                                                                                                                                                                                 
  3. As the majority of activities will be outside (weather permitting) please ensure your child is protected by sun cream (we will ensure supplies are available also in school)
  4. Please ensure your child brings a face mask to wear in class if necessary; anti bacterial handgel will be available in every room.
  5. Children should wear casual clothing and casual shoes (no flipflops or loose sandals please)
  6. Dropping off your child in the morning – you may bring your child into school from 09:30am – please note: there are no parking facilities on our school site. Please avoid parking your car and dropping off your child at the school gate as this will cause a traffic jam and create a hazard for pedestrians and other road users)
  7. Picking up your child at 3:00pm. Parents may enter the school grounds and wait by the Hall entrance to take your child home. Please advise the school if your child is making their own way home.
  8. Covid testing – we will not be undertaking any testing of students during this week, however we would strongly advise that your child is tested during the week. Test kits will be available on the first day if you wish to collect one.
  9. Your child will not need to bring any equipment with them as all resources will be provided;
  10. A designated Safeguard leader, First Aider and a Receptionist will be on duty each day and will be contactable if you have any concerns. If your child is unwell to attend, please can you contact the school on 01843 591075 before 09:30 am.
  11. Your child should avoid bringing into school any valuable items including Mobile Phones – the Receptionist or First Aider will contact you in the event of an emergency.
  12. Each parent who has declared a medical, SEN or dietary need will be contacted by telephone to ensure we can understand and meet your child’s requirements during Summer School.
