Thanet Music & Drama Festival

2nd April 2019

The Vocal and Choral section of the Thanet Music & Drama Festival happened last week. On Thursday, in the 13 and under Songs from the Shows’ class; of 33 entrants, a 1/3 were from CCGS; Libby Field, Matilda Ellis, Meredith Cloke, Harriet Tyman (all year 7), Maedhbh McCabe & Edmond Rudland (year 9) all did well, Ruby Dirksen (year 8) achieved a distinction, Kelsie Bissett (year 7) tied in 3rd place, and Grace Chamberlain (year 7) came 2nd… no mean feat in such a large class.

Libby, Ruby, Maedhbh and Harriet also took part in other classes that day, with Harriet winning the cup for the set song, 11 and under, and Ruby was accompanied by Francesca Coldham (year 8) to win the prize for junior “song and accompaniment”. Francesca has also won a bursary.  Harriet and Maedhbh sang again on Friday, both gaining 87 marks in the Folk Song class.

That evening, in the songs from Musicals 16 & Under, Molly Jones (year 9) and Beth McKeand (year 11) both gained 87 marks, Katie McNally (year 11) came 2nd and Bradley Bissett (year 10) gained 92 marks and the cup for this class. Kaden Pearce’s performance in the 18 & under class received 90 marks, but “only” came 2nd.

The 18 & under Song in a Modern Style, held on Saturday morning saw Katie come 3rd, and Bradley 1st winning another cup with another 92 marks.

Sunday saw a new section of the festival this year; one for SIGNING choirs. This year it was non-competitive. Two CCGS girls, Carys Weedon (year 8) and Maedhbh McCabe, took part in it as members of the Inspiration Youth Signing Choir. I look forward to seeing this section grow next year.
