Magical Musical Moments in Italy

28th August 2012

Musicians and singers from Ramsgate hit the right notes during a touring of Tuscany and Umbria in Italy.

The 40-strong group from the Chatham and Clarendon Grammar Federation wowed audiences with their stylish and professional performances.

During their busy six-day trip, the students gave concerts in the spa town of Montecatini, Perugia (where they were part of an international music festival) and in Florence.

Director of music Molly Hollman said: “We were very privileged to be able to sing the Mass in Assisi cathedral - the head Franciscan monk presented us with a scroll to commemorate the occasion.

“We also enjoyed some great excursions to explore the culture and heritage of Italy - we visited the Duomo in Florence (and had genuine Neapolitan pizzas for tea; took a trip via cable car to the top of a 5000 ft mountain; visited the leaning tower of Pisa;  and were given a tour of a very famous vineyard in Umbria.

“Our students were excellently behaved and were a credit to the school.”

The group’s  tour shirts were sponsored by the Ambrette restaurant in Margate, and the school’s Old Ruymians Society.
