Revving Up for Junior Grand Prix

Eight driving teams, pit crews and hundreds of supporters will take part in the seventh annual endurance race around the specially-constructed circuit in the grounds of the Chatham and Clarendon grammar Federation in Chatham Street, Ramsgate.

As well as the actual race, teams compete in a range of categories including team presentation, driving skills, design and bodywork portfolio, and greenest car.

 Competition organiser Lester Edmeades said: “Each year our young drivers turn in fantastic performances, with excellent support from their crews and design teams. It is a real test of enthusiasm and dedication to get these cars on the track with very tight budgets.

“We are looking forward to another great community event.”

Teams competing in the 2012 grand prix are: - Drapers Mills, Herne Bay, Upton, Minster, St Nicholas, St Peter’s, Hampton, and Minterne.

The competition began following the success of Chatham House in the national green power battery car championships over the last ten years when they have been in the top ten in the UK consistently.

A build-a-car project was launched as part of the Chatham House science and technology link with junior schools, and the junior kit car grand prix flourished
