Innovative Designs at Business Competition

30th May 2012

A proto-type computer-based organiser designed and marketed by four Year 10 students have won a business competition run by the Connexions career advice service.

The Big Business Pitch was run at The Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School Federation in Ramsgate and it generated a range of interesting and innovative ideas.

Staff member Eunice Scott-Smith co-ordinated the event. She said: “Each group had to produce an A4 poster for their product or service, a financial statement, a marketing plan and a proto-type.

“During the competition weeks Connexions provided motivational speakers including Moira Cameron, the first lady Beefeater at the Tower of London, Paul Chandler, marketing manager for Scalextric at Hornby Hobbies, and Beverley Aitken FCA, Day, Smith & Hunter.

“Six teams made it through to the school final where they had to present their product or service to a panel of judges and their peers. The judges were very complimentary of the standard reached in a very short time.

“The winning team produced a fantastic product with a very slick power point presentation and fielded numerous questions from the floor. Well done to all the teams who worked so hard.”

The Big Business Pitch winning team were Kate Weedy, Hannah Blount, Charlotte Crabb and Louisa Webb.
