CCGS girls have come away from the Thanet School Rounders Tournaments as winners in the U12, U13 and U14 age groups. The all-day tournaments, held at Dane Court School on Friday 3rd July were attended by local secondary school and very competitive games were held in the hot sun.

The U12 went into the tournament unsure of how well they would rank, they started the season with a few losses and a number of games cancelled due to bad weather. However, the team’s hard work and dedication was rewarded with the girls playing well together and scoring an outstanding number of rounders, resulting in them winning all games.

The U13 team, returning champions from last year were favourites to win the tournament, having recently finished 3rd overall in Kent at the Kent School Games Competition. The girls were not complacent and knew that with short 7 minute innings every rounder would be important and a loss of concentration could result in a slip up being made. The girls were confident and shone, they scored over 50 rounders beating all of the teams with style and outstanding skill levels for students of their age.

The U14 team, also returning champions were confident after a good summer season, went on to victory. They scored 51 rounders and only conceded 18 in the six matches played, the highlight for them being the closely fought match against Dane Court that CCGS won 3 ½ to 1/2 .

Mrs Morgan (Head of Girls Sport) said about this amazing performance, “The CCGS girls’ rounders teams have done exceptionally well and skill levels of all the girls continues to improve. It shows that training each week is really making a difference and I have high hopes that these girls will all be returning to the tournament next year ready to retain their titles!”
