Carnegie Book Ceremony

24th June 2014

Our Carnegie shadowing group gathered in the library at 12 noon on the 23rd June to watch the Carnegie Book Medal Ceremony streamed live as the winner was announced.

All pupils have read at least one of the 8 short-listed books, but most had read 3 or 4, and Ronni Jarvis won our reading prize by having read all 8! (Rosie Axon was not far behind, finishing her 8th as I write).

The winner was Kevin Brook’s ‘Bunker Diary’; an incredibly bleak book that took him 10 years to publish as it seems to offer no hope! 3 of those present chose it as their favourite, but a third preferred Rebecca Stead’s “Liar and Spy”. Of the whole shadowing group, our own ‘winner’ was Susan Cooper’s evocative ‘Ghost Hawk’.

The shadowing is run every year, and gives all the chance to read some top-class fiction, compare notes, and participate in the fun of voting for the winner.
