Thanet Earth Cooking Competition May 2014

17th May 2014

Three pupils were chosen as entrants to the finals of the Thanet Earth Cooking Competition. Their task was to think of a recipe idea that included some of the produce grown at Thanet Earth, (cucumbers, peppers or tomatoes). The following pupils took part in the final on Wednesday 14th May; Jude Farrant year 7,who made a risotto with tomatoes in, Isabella Hyde year 7, who made a Jamaican curry with peppers  and Elizabeth Baker, who made Earl Grey and cucumber cupcakes.

The pupils had one hour to cook their dishes and they were judged by a panel of six judges from the Ambrette, The Minnis, Tesco and Thanet Earth. All three cooks worked hard in an unfamiliar kitchen and presented lovely food. Elizabeth Baker was chosen as the winner for her unusual flavour combination in her beautifully presented Cucumber and Earl Grey cupcakes.

All three pupils were given an apron and a cookery book for entering and Elizabeth won a trophy and £300 in vouchers for the school to use to buy cooking equipment. Elizabeth’s winning recipe will also be replicated on recipe cards and available in all Thanet Tesco stores. So look out for them when you are next shopping!
