2nd XI Hockey vs Simon Langton

27th January 2014

Langton 2nds

Lost 7-1

We started the season half asleep, conceding two goals in two minutes leading to a quick re-shuffle.  Then some composure was gained for ten minutes with Putter linking up very well with Le Roux and Tom Hume making things happen in the final third before conceding a couple of sloppy goals.  A well worked short corner gave us our goal before half time, Putter’s shot deflected by Le Roux past the keeper.  A solid opening fifteen to twenty minutes of the second half saw lots of creativity and chances made including a narrowly wide short corner attempt but there was never any end product in sight.  This was also a solid period of defence with Jono Pick making a few stand out tackles and interceptions with Freddie even hitting a ball perfectly in a clearance! Late in the game a lack of subs causing fatigue lead to conceding three late goals, making the final 7-1 score line an unfair representation of the match, with one o these goals going in from 35-40 yards, running straight through to the goal and yet the goal was given.  A positive start to the season but it was evident that basic hockey skills need to be looked at in training e.g. dwelling on the ball, running into trouble and poor passing.
