1st XI Hockey vs Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar

27th January 2014

We approached our first game in the U18 Kent cup buoyed with confidence following our previous high scoring victory, a confidence which could have been our downfall as shown by our first half performance. Early on, we passed the ball far too casually, giving it away easily and putting ourselves under a lot of pressure. Even after Isaac O’Connor gave us the lead, we ignored the early warning signs and were eventually made to pay, when they put the goal in the back of the net to equalise, albeit in dubious circumstances. Some improvement was seen in Billy Ingram and Josh Seymour restoring our advantage but we went into the half time break only 3-1 up, having performed much worse than against Maidstone. Following some tough words in the team talk, we started the second half with a point to prove, and strong wing play from Ed Kirkpatrick and Charles Woodham allowed us to start scoring some more goals. Josh Seymour and Isaac O’Connor both added to their totals and we retained the ball better than before. Alex Kirkpatrick also scored in the dying seconds, following a good passing move, to make the final score 13-1, and ensuring our progress to the quarter finals.

Final Score: 13-1 (Isaac O’Connor (7), Josh Seymour (4), Billy Ingram (1), Alex Kirkpatrick (1))

Man of the Match: Josh Seymour
