1st XI Hockey vs Maidstone Grammar, 15th January 2014

15th January 2014

After a disappointing season last year, the hockey squad were keen to make changes and become a better side this year. Starting training in October, it is fair to say we have a committed and keen squad, and we turned up to our first ever fixture against Maidstone hoping to prove we were a force to be reckoned with. We started the game brightly with the first few attacks, and soon enough Isaac O’Connor found the back of the net with a reverse stick shot, to put us in the lead, completing his hat-trick just a few minutes later. From a winning position we settled down, controlling the game in midfield with Dan Vinson proving he is a great passer of the ball. Following some strong team moves, we were able to add more goals, through Ed Elliot and Josh Seymour, before Isaac O’Connor tucked away his 4th from a short corner. We continued to dominate, with more goals from Alex Kirkpatrick and Thierry Preston to record our biggest victory in recent years. However, it wasn’t all our way, as shown by Thierry Preston winning Man of the Match at centre-back for his many interceptions which ensured their attackers went the entire game without a shot.

Final score: 11-0 (Isaac O’Connor (5), Ed Elliot (2), Josh Seymour (2), Alex Kirkpatrick (1), Thierry Preston (1))
