PE v Games
Physical Education is taught as a class in mixed ability groups and focusses on healthy active lifestyles and stretches students in both practical sports whilst challenging their cognitive understanding of Sport. The higher end students are nurtured into coaching and communicative roles whilst the lower end benefit from the expertise of the higher end performers. Individual sports are the main focus for PE to help balance the curriculum versus a heavy team sports Games lesson.
Games is taught as a whole year group and focusses on team sports and competition to enrich the strong historic house competitions within the school. All students have the opportunity to gain points for their house, with the top end competing in matches in a huge variety of sports whilst the lower end are challenged to improve with the emphasis on effort rather than ability. This has been a very successful differentiated process in the past allowing all students to progress at their own rate.
All activities are supplemented with a large enrichment of extra-curricular sport. We try to focus on few sports and complete them to an elite standard but we do still compete in a wide variety of alternative sports at a district level. Our Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Cricket teams compete all over Kent and often travel further for Cup matches in National competitions.
